FACULTY INFORMATION

Welcome !

We offer a wide range of products and services specifically for your convenience.  You may have some questions about the Bookstore and some of those may be answered here.  If you have any other questions or comments, please feel free to contact the Bookstore Manager, Carlita Carter, or the Textbook Manager, Valerie Garrison.

Why does the Bookstore need the requisition so early?
Our main goal is to make sure that every student that registered for your class has textbooks available when your course begins.  To make that happen a time consuming research and procurement process has to take place.  The earlier we have all the pertinent information, the better able we are to achieve that goal.

Many students prefer used books, and in order to provide an adequate supply several sources must be contacted, in addition to the books we may obtain from BuyBack during Finals.  We must check with publishers for edition changes before this process can commence.

New books are purchased directly from publishers.  An adequate lead time can prevent delays caused by out of stock and out of print situations that the Bookstore has no control over.  Seasonal shipping delays must also be taken into consideration when placing orders.  If problems do arise, you will be contacted. Again, adequate lead time would be crucial in processing any changes you may wish to make at that point.

Large publishers and distributing companies can supply books, on average, within 5 to 10 business days.  However, small companies are not capable of processing orders this quickly.  A few companies are too small to allow us to use purchase orders and require prepayment which adds an additional two weeks to the ordering process.  Foreign publishers may require special arrangements.

If you are not sure of all the books you will want for a course, please submit the requisition for the books you are sure about.  Just note on the request form that further information will be forth coming.  Please do not include titles that you may not end up using.  Please remember that the high costs of handling and shipping excess books has a direct effect on book prices.

How does the Bookstore decide how many books to order?

The Bookstore relies heavily on your stated course projections and the maximum enrollment set by the registrar.  Please let us know if your class size changes, or if sections are added.  If we don't know that you have overloaded on the maximum enrollment we could run out of books.   We will need to hear from you to determine how many books to reorder.
But my desk copy hasn't arrived yet!

Publishing companies do not allow the Bookstore to order your desk copy.  Please contact your departmental secretary to complete that process.   If your copy has not arrived in time for you to prepare your syllabus, departmental accounts have been set up in the Bookstore to help.  Simply take the text to the cashier, he/she will help you charge your purchases to the appropriate account.  Once your desk copy has arrived, your department can obtain credit.  However, if the desk copy is not a student version, special arrangements must be made.
What about my off campus students?

Several options are available to service the needs of students taking courses off campus.  They can call the Bookstore toll free at:  1-800-491-0862 or can order textbooks online at www.bookstore.armstrong.edu/.  We would be happy to supply you with order forms for students needing to process their orders by check.  Whichever method the student chooses, these orders can be shipped directly to the student's home or picked up in the store.  The Bookstore is open extended hours during Registration Week and we are open until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday evening.
Some guidelines for course packs:

Some professors require a course pack than is more elaborate and bulky that the usual syllabus.  Please be sure to submit your request by mid-term of the previous semester.  This will assure us adequate time to handle any special requirements you may have.

There is more to a course pack than meets the eye.   In accordance with federal law, permission must be obtained for copyrighted citations included in your course pack. Obtaining permission is generally laborious and many publishers require as much as eight weeks advance notice for permission to copy from a work.  Therefore, we must be notified of such material included in your course pack to insure that the proper steps are taken.

Once the duplication process is completed, the original provided by your department will be returned.  As in the case of required textbooks, please let us know about course overloads or additional sections added..

But I have special needs!

Many classes require special materials.  We will be happy to stock any technical materials you need for your course.  Please note these needs on your requisition so that we can maintain stock in such items as maps, specialty paper, safety goggles, etc.
